It's finally happened...

... It was going to happen sooner or later but I scraped my car on a brickwall that was portruding. It is quite bad but what shocked me the most was that the area I damaged revealed the body filler. I have taken it to a body shop for a quote, and it is quite extensive body filler so not sure how bad a bump it had previously. I have also dented the bumped area too.

I have decided to have the entire thing resprayed, the gloss black roof including the blue surround is going gloss white, the spoiler gloss white, the G badges will be peeled and sprayed solid white, basically any black on the car will go gloss white and the blue resprayed. It was due to be done anyways but it took a bump for me to do it.

Anyone have an ideas as to what kind of damage it would have to have for so much body filler to be used? I think the reason the damage looks worse is because of the body filler, there's loads of it and it just crumbled like sand. I always knew there was something off with the particular area as there was a different shade of blue around the edge of the area where the back wheel sits.

Any thoughts?

P.s., the car is in the body shop next Monday, and returned at the end of the week. I will post pictures of before and after once I get it back. I was dissapointed to see the filler and it does make me wonder what the car has been through before I got it. All I have done to the car since I've had it is fix alot of aesthetic issues it had. I was always told it was an 'old retired man' that owned the car previously but now I'm not so sure - not that I ever really believed that anyways.

It is amazing what paint can hide. Filler isn't too bad if the repair has been done to a good standard. Hopefully they did a good job of rust prevention etc. before the did the filling and painting. If they did you should be ok.

What part of body had all the filler....bumper, wing?

Think it’s the wing, the part where the car bends in and pops out as you go towards the top of the boot lid. Hope I explained that well enough.

I think that the exterior wing & rear  panels behind the doors are all "plastic" so the good news it that whatever impact caused the damage to the panel may not have been particularly severe as the panels would damage more easily than metal ones. 

So probably no need to worry about any "internal" (EG:suspension) damage etc from the impact.

Should look good when you get it back with the changes you are making.

My only concern would be the white bits getting dirty ....cool look

I didn’t remove all the black as I thought it would be a little too much but in seeing it as it is I think all black should be removed. The only issue is that the plastics on the car are not one and the same which means the colour will look slightly different. So although it would be all white it will be slightly off in parts. I’m undecided yet. I do think the roof looks bigger as one piece coloured. I do want the panels with the indicators on sprayed white as the white down to the A pillars looks like it stops abruptly. I forgot to take a picture of the repair, I’ll do so tomorrow.

The white roof & spoiler seem to have a nautical flavour about them as well as making the car look lower & more streamlined.

White front softens the "face" as opposed to my decision to go for a black front when I was looking for a more positive (AGGRESSIVE? Surely not!) look.
