Key locking issue again Empty Key locking issue again

Hi all, just before I px’d my previous Wind the keyfob stopped working to close the car with. So I reverted to using the spare key for a while, eventually I plucked up the coursge to go to the main dealer for a replacement. It cost £80 for the blank key, then a further £120 to have it programmed.
I now have a repeat of that experience, as the key refused to lock the car on Thursday, going to main dealers to repeat process - it takes a couple of weeks to get it sorted out because last time they had to order the blank one in.
Have any of you experienced the same issue with your keys or have I just been unlucky ?
Funnily the cars were about the same age but the other one had covered higher mileage, I guess like anything else it depends how often the key is used but it seems to me that they seem vulnerable to this issue - strange how it only affects the locking rather than the unlocking of the doors - please share your experiences.

The main key on the wind I have just bought is showing signs of wear, the folding mechanism is very loose and the locking button is difficult to operate so looks like it's a generic issue with these keys. I'm using the spare as it's just easier, no folding but I can live with that.

For the KA I needed a spare key. Timpson shoe repairers did it for me £25 it isn't remote but still needed programming.

I've just ordered a 'service pack' for mine from ebay. £9.99 gets a new casing with buttons, new battery, two new mini switches to replace existing and a blank key blade (you can swap the existing one with that) . The switches need to be soldered onto the existing board with the old ones removed, but this is very intricate (my friend is an electronics engineer so he's going to do it for me). I'll let you know how it goes.

Well the key is back from my friend and good as new. He said the switches were fiddly to get off the board but once they are away from the solder joints it was easy to solder the new ones on. I swapped the blank blade for my original key blade, pin just needs pressing out with a pair of pliers and a thin blunt nail of the right diameter, wiggle the blade out of the housing, push the other blade in, then use the pliers to press the pin back in once the blade is lined up with the holes. All in all best £10 spent so far. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Button-Remote-Key-Fob-Case-Service-Repair-Refurbishment-Kit-For-Renault-Wind-/153429379160

I have had issues with a loose folding mechanism on my key and have bought several replacement shells from e-bay and amazon but they have all been of poor quality and went the same way again after a few weeks. Do you think the mechanism on the one you have bought is good?

Well I've only had it in use for a few days but I would say that so far it seems pretty robust and feels solid. The buttons don't travel far into the casing when pressed but feel firm and positive. Overall I'm quite impressed with it at the moment, only time will tell though. Should also say that the spring is pretty strong when opening the key blade.

I fixed my hard to push buttons with a small blob of Sugru applied to the underside of the buttons. Seems to have resolved it for the past couple of years.

Just a quick update on the key kit. Over two weeks in and used at least a couple of trips every day. So far no signs of any quick wear or failing of the key release etc.

a little tip: am on my second wind now (no pun intended!) and the key buttons do wear quickly...what i have found when taking it apart is its often the rubber that wears down where the switch pushes against it, the contact between the switch and the rubber becomes poor... Easy fix: insert a tiny piece of something solid, paper etc in-between the rubber and the switch...gives it something firm to push against. My key which was temperamental now works like a charm. Cost=0

Sadly - this option didn’t work for me - typical  SadSad anyway its a trip to the main dealer next Sat - they are so busy I’ve had to wait weeks for a Saturday appointment - perhaps 100 customers have lost the ability to use their keys lol
